Born January 22 1959 in Leningrad.

In 1980's graduated from Theatre History department of Leningrad State Institute of History of Theatre, Music and Cinematography. Created a “parallel cinema” team “Che-payev”. Worked as a fellow researcher at Russian Institute of History of Arts. Taught history and theory of cinema in his own Alma Mater as well as in Saint-Petersburg University of Cinema and Television.

Since 1990 had been an author and a member of “Seance” editorial board. Worked as cinema observer in the “Kommersant-daily” newspaper. Had written over 600 articles published in Russian and foreign issues.

Died August 27, 1997.
